DEMOCRATIC LEADER
Jim Dunnam has served as the House Democratic Leader since 2003. For four consecutive terms, he has been elected by his Democratic colleagues to head caucus meetings and strategies, serve as their liaison with Republican leaders, and represent them in the press. Jim strives to use his position to improve cooperation between the members of his party as well as work with Republican members to pursue legislation that is good for all Texans.
During the most recent session, Representative Dunnam worked closely with House Speaker Joe Straus and Republican Caucus Chairman Larry Taylor to bring back a widely-recognized and strong sense of bi-partisanship back to the Texas House. It can be seen in the unanimously-approved state budget bill and by the long list of legislative accomplishments this session.
He is pleased that the members of the House is working together again. With the House so closely divided - 76 Republicans to 74 Democrats - it is important that the parties work as a team to make Texas a better place to live.
